About the Site
"Grandma Maggie" was born in 1933 and is a mother of four girls and
grandmother to two boys and two girls. She is known for her open mind
and honesty in dealing with questions from teens and pre-teens. If you ask Grandma Maggie a question, you will get
a straight, respectful answer.
Ask-Anything was conceived by high school students in
Washington, Iowa, who wanted to create a forum that would allow them to ask
questions of a trusted adult and still maintain strict
confidentiality.
They also thought that their parents and others outside their own
rural community might possibly be interested in joining the conversation.
With the help of a US Dept. of Education's 21st Century Learning Center grant
and the Washington Community School District, Ask-Anything was developed.
Students taking the Human Growth and Development course in
Washington, Iowa are all directed to this site for assistance and support as
they grapple with the tough issues of adolescence. It's their hope that
parents and teens from all over find Ask-Anything as user-friendly and helpful as
folks in their small community have. After four years online and over 7,100 letters in our archives,
we now receive letters from all parts of the world.
Grandma Maggie also writes a parenting and childcare advice column on the popular parenting site, BabyNames.com.
